ICC World Test Championship: The second edition of the ICC World Test Championship is in progress. The final of this championship, which started from 1 August 2021, is to be played on 31 March 2023 and all the teams are working hard to make their place in the final this time. Looking at the current standings, Australia is at the top, while Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa and India are behind them in the top 5. In such a situation, it is a little difficult to say which two teams will make it to the final of the second edition, but former Indian cricket Aakash Chopra has made his prediction about it.
India are yet to play a Test in England after Sri Lanka in the second edition of the WTC. After this, the team will play a two-Test series on the Bangladesh tour, then India has to host Australia’s four Tests.
Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel, “India have to win all four matches of the four-Test series against Australia to score 100 per cent. You can’t draw, you have to win all four matches. 2-0 against Sri Lanka . After that we will play in Bangladesh and I am sure we can win. One Test we have to play in England. It is not going to be easy after the loss against South Africa.
The former Indian opener also believes that defending champions New Zealand will not qualify for the final of the tournament. With this, he has described Pakistan and Australia as strong contenders for the final along with India.
Chopra said, “There are only 2 Tests left in their (New Zealand) home. They have drawn series against Bangladesh and South Africa. New Zealand will not qualify. Even though they win their remaining two Tests at home against Sri Lanka, they still have two Tests against Pakistan (and 3 against England). It’s over for them, they won’t qualify.”
He said, “I am not counting England, Bangladesh, West Indies, and I will not count New Zealand either. I don’t think Sri Lanka have a chance to qualify. I think India, Pakistan and Australia in these three teams. There is a possibility of a final between any two teams from India. If Pakistan does not prepare such a flat pitch, there is a strong possibility of a Pakistan-Australia final.
