On 8 December, the BCCI announced the appointment of Team India’s opener Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain of Team India. There was a mixed reaction from the cricket world regarding this. Rohit Sharma was given the captaincy of T20 last month. Under his leadership, India had a 3-0 clean sweep in the T20I series against New Zealand. Virat Kohli refuted BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s claim that he had requested Virat not to step down from the T20 captaincy. After this, Ganguly is the target of Kohli’s fans. Ganguly once again supported Rohit, he was the best choice as a captain.

In Backstage With Boria, Ganguly said of Rohit, “Five IPL titles with Mumbai, one title with Deccan Chargers speaks volumes about his ability to handle pressure. Once Virat decided that he did not want to lead the T20I, he was the best option. They have made a good start after beating New Zealand 3-0 in India. Hopefully, we will see better results for India next year than what we saw this year. Significantly, India has performed brilliantly in the limited-overs under the leadership of Kohli. Under his captaincy, Team India could not win any ICC tournament.

Ganguly said that India played well in the Champions Trophy in 2017 as well as in the 2019 World Cup. At the same time, our performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup was the worst in the last 4-5 years. I don’t know what happens. I think we didn’t play freely. Sometimes, you just get stuck. The way we played against Pakistan and New Zealand, I thought we played with only 15 percent capacity. Hope we learn from this.
