A Marxist Communist Party (CPI-M) worker was killed in an attack by an unidentified gang at Poonol near Kerala’s Thalassery district in the early hours of Monday. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as K Haridasan (54), a resident of Poonol located near New Mahe, who is a fisherman by profession. Apart from his wife Mini, he is survived by two daughters.
He told that Haridas was attacked when he was returning home after catching fish. When he was about to reach his home, the assailants who came on two motorcycles attacked him. Hearing Haridas’s cries, the nearby people hastened him to Thalassery Co-operative Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Had a fight with BJP workers
Sources in the CPI(M) have said that during a function organized at a temple in Poonol on February 7, there was an altercation between CPI(M) and BJP workers, suspecting that the murder took place over him. CPI(M) district secretary MV Jayarajan has blamed RSS workers behind the attack.
Bajrang Dal worker murdered in Karnataka
On the other hand, a 23-year-old Bajrang Dal worker was stabbed to death in Karnataka’s Shivamogga. Section 144 has been imposed in the city as a precautionary measure after the incident. Police said that a person named Harsha was allegedly stabbed to death by unidentified assailants on Sunday night in Ravi Verma street of Bharti Colony. The city, about 250 km from Bengaluru, has recently sparked controversy among some colleges over wearing the hijab. However, the reason behind the murder on Sunday is yet to be ascertained.
