Mega auction is going on for the 15th season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL in Bangalore. After the conclusion of the first day of IPL Auction 2022, the number of players of Royal Challengers Bangalore had increased to 11. Even on the second day of the IPL 2022 auction, the team is trying to include many players in its team. However, the name of Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2022 is also included in the few teams that have not yet announced the name of their captain. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson said on Saturday that the franchise will announce its captain after the 2022 IPL mega auction ends.
Team bought Faf
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) entered the IPL 2022 auction with the added responsibility of choosing the captain. After the departure of former captain Virat Kohli from this post, Glenn Maxwell was left as the leader in this team of Bengaluru. In the auction, the franchise bought Faf du Plessis for Rs 7 crore, who can play the role of an experienced opener and captain for the team.
The captain will be decided after the auction
There was a bidding war between Royal Challengers Bangalore, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Delhi Capitals to include star opener du Plessis in their team. But RCB did not give up till the end and was successful in connecting the African batsman to their team. Although the team may have got two stalwarts (du Plessis and Maxwell) who can play the role of captain in the upcoming season, Mike Hesson, Director of Cricket Operations at RCB, feels the think tank will take a call after the auction.
During a virtual press conference on Saturday, Hesson said, “We haven’t discussed that (captain) yet. We have three great leaders now in Maxwell, Virat, and Faf du Plessis. We really talk to those three leaders. Glad, we have Josh Hazlewood as the bowling leader. See. We will decide on the captaincy after the auction.”
If cricket experts are to be believed, then Faf du Plessis can be made the new captain of RCB. Because he has the best experience of captaining the South African team and together he was in very good form as a batsman last season.
RCB was one of the busiest franchises in the IPL 2022 auction on the first day. They also bought back some old players. Harshal Patel, who won the Purple Cap in IPL 2021, was bought by the team for Rs 10.75 crore and Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for a whopping sum of Rs 10.75 crore.
