Metro Man E Sreedharan announced his retirement from politics, saying that the defeat in the assembly elections has made him wiser. 90-year-old Sreedharan gave this information while addressing journalists in his native town Ponnani in Malappuram district on Thursday. However, the BJP’s state unit is unhappy with the announcement of his retirement from active politics.
Addressing reporters on Thursday, Metro Man E Sreedharan said, “The assembly election defeat made me wiser. It made me sad when I lost, but now I realize that even if I won, I would have done nothing.” I was never a politician, I remained a bureaucratic politician for some time.” He said that his entry into politics was late and it was not too late to come out of it.
Sreedharan said, “I am 90 now and cannot run around like a youngster. I am associated with three different trusts and now I will spend the rest of my time with them.”
Asked whether he was leaving the political field with regrets of the defeat, he said when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in March 2021, there were enough prospects for the party but now the situation is different. “The party will have to do a lot to establish a foothold in the state,” he said. I had mentioned this in my report to the party president after the election defeat. I don’t want to discuss those things right now.”
Sreedharan was the CM face of BJP in the election
Metro Man E Sreedharan had landed as a CM candidate for BJP in the assembly elections. But the BJP had also lost the loan seat in Nemom. In such a situation, the central leadership had sought a report of the defeat from Sreedharan. Sreedharan had lost the assembly elections in the Palakkad seat. In a triangular contest, he lost to sitting Congress MLA Shafi Parambhil by over 3000 votes. He said, “I had a short stint in politics. I am neither leaving politics out of hatred nor am I struggling. You can say late entry and early exit. I will also serve the people for the next life through my three trusts.” through whom I am associated.”
BJP shocked by Sreedharan’s decision
The state unit of BJP has expressed surprise over the sudden decision of E Sreedharan to retire from politics. BJP state president Surendran said, “We heard about this only through the media. However, he will still remain our well-wisher and we will continue to take his guidance and advice on key issues.”
