The Bill relating to the withdrawal of the three controversial agricultural laws was introduced in the Lok Sabha today. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar laid it on the Table of the House amidst the uproar of the opposition. The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha amidst uproar by the opposition. Leader of Congress Parliamentary Party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has demanded a discussion on this bill in the House. Due to the uproar by the opposition, the house was adjourned till 2 pm.
The Lok Sabha has approved the Agricultural Laws Repeal Bill, 2021, without discussion, to repeal three controversial agricultural laws amid uproar by the opposition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently announced the withdrawal of these laws while addressing the country. He had said that we could not succeed in explaining its benefits to some farmers somewhere.
Demonstration of Congress in Parliament House Complex on Agricultural Laws
Earlier, party MPs led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi demonstrated in the Parliament House Complex on Monday against the controversial agriculture laws. Congress members gathered in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the premises were holding a big banner which read in English – We demand the withdrawal of the black agricultural laws.
The protesters included former Congress President Rahul Gandhi and several members of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. They were raising anti-government slogans.
Significantly, the government has announced to withdraw all three controversial agricultural laws. Congress says that unless the interests of the farmers are protected, the party will not sit still. Meanwhile, on the morning of the first day of Parliament, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for some time amid uproar by the opposition after paying homage to the late former MPs.
