Police has got a big success in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra. At least 26 Naxals were killed in an encounter with police on Saturday in Gadchiroli district of eastern Maharashtra, 900 km from Mumbai. Naxalite Milind Teltumbde, who was a member of the Central Committee of the CPI (Maoist) and the head of the newly formed MMC zone of the insurgents, was also killed in an encounter with the police. It is said that Milind Teltumbde was a wanted accused in the Bhima Koregaon case. Not only this, there was a reward of Rs 50 lakh on him.

Gadchiroli Superintendent of Police Ankit Goel said on Sunday that as per the primary identification, Milind Teltumbde was one of the 26 Maoists killed in Saturday’s encounter. At present, the identity of the other slain Maoists is being ascertained. Teltumbde alias Jeeva was one of the most senior functionaries of the CPI (Maoist). Let us tell you that this encounter started when the C-60 police commando team led by Additional SP Soumya Munde was involved in the search operation.

Senior intelligence officials believe that Teltumbde regularly visited MMC areas and had recruited around 100 locals for the commando unit of the MMC called Vistara Dalam. Teltumbde roamed the jungles with heavily armed bodyguards and a squad of Maoists. According to senior Maoist leader Pahar Singh, who surrendered in 2018, Teltumbde took all the major decisions of the organization regarding the zone.

Teltumbde was known by many names. For example, Milind Baburao Teltumbde, Deepak Teltumbde and Jeeva. Milind Teltumbde’s elder brother and well-known educationist Anand Teltumbde is in jail in the Elgar Parishad case. Anand’s wife is the granddaughter of Bhimrao Ambedkar. Gadchiroli district superintendent of police Ankit Goel said the encounter started early in the morning at Korchi in Mardintola forest area when a team of C-60 police commandos was conducting a search operation. Four police personnel were also seriously injured in the encounter and were airlifted to Nagpur for treatment. This district is situated on the border of Chhattisgarh.
